Melbourne Airport has rolled out a new passenger IT system.
The Australian hub has completed a switch to SITA’s AirportConnect Open platform, which will power all 275 workstations, including check-in counters and boarding gates, at the airport’s international terminal.
The move forms part of a gradual transition to SITA’s common-use platform, which has already seen the installation of self-service check-in kiosks and automated baggage drop facilities.
“Over the next two years Melbourne Airport is investing AU$1 billion (US$904 million) in a development plan which includes the transformation of our international terminal. By working together with SITA and using technology in new ways we will be able to improve our processes to make the journey smoother for passengers and the airlines that serve them,” said Chris Woodruff, CEO of Melbourne Airport.
Currently 25 international airlines and 30m passengers use the airport, but the new IT facilities are designed to help Melbourne Airport cope with a doubling of its passenger traffic to 60m per year by 2030.
The move to SITA’s platform is currently underway and full implementation is expected by the end of this month.
