Qazaq Air, Kazakhstan’s new domestic national carrier, has move a step closer to its launch by signing a deal for its first aircraft.
The airline, which is owned by Samruk Kazyna, Kazakhstan’s Sovereign Wealth Fund, has announced that it will launch domestic services using three Bombardier Q400 aircraft, which have been leased from the UAE’s Falcon Aviation Services.
Previously launched as Air Kazakhstan, Qazaq Air will operate in tandem with Kazakhstan’s main national carrier Air Astana, serving routes to smaller airports across the country and feeding traffic into Air Astana’s international routes.
“Many of the 12 routes on which the Q400 aircraft will operate are not currently served by any other carrier. Qazaq Air, using the Q400 aircraft, will be connecting people and helping them benefit from the growth of the Kazakh economy,” said Blair Pollock, project director at Samruk Kazyna.
“In addition, the aircraft’s cabin will provide a quiet, comfortable experience for our passengers.”
Pollock added that the Q400 turboprop was selected as it has been proved to operate well in Kazakhstan’s extreme hot and cold temperatures.
Qazaq Air will be based in Almaty.
