The Algarve in southern Portugal has unveiled a new promotional campaign ‘Algarve Looks Good on You’ to highlight its pledge to welcome back visitors safely. The campaign has been launched following a series of strict measures put in place to ensure all visitors and locals can visit the region with confidence.

The new video is available at here.

It showcases what the region has to offer its visitors, from sandy beaches, beautiful weather, outdoor activities, culture and amazing cuisine. A ‘Clean & Safe’ stamp developed by the National Tourism Authority was introduced which certifies compliance with strict health protocols in tourism and has been issued to more than 20,000 trained professionals.

Safety measures that are in place include the development of a ‘Manual of Good Practices’ for the region’s biggest tourist activities, with strict procedures to be adopted for rent-a-car, golf, camping sites, marinas, beaches, surfing, water parks and restaurants, in addition to tourist accommodation, travel agencies and tourist entertainment companies.

Restaurants have also reopened with a 50 percent capacity reduction, allowing visitors to enjoy the rich seafood-based gastronomy of the region. Shops, museums, and workshops have also reopened for visitors, allowing them to discover the extraordinary culture and heritage of this part of Portugal.

The newly-reopened beaches follow strict guidance as defined by the Portuguese Environment Agency (APA). The quality and safety of the Algarve beaches is also attested by the 87 Blue Flags awarded this year by the European Blue Flag Association.

João Fernandes, president of the Algarve Tourism Board, said: “The region is prepared to receive tourists and visitors, on its beaches and inland. It will be the duty of all of us, from tour operators to citizens, to comply with the rules of access, individual protection measures and safety distances. We are looking forward to hosting visitors again and confident to welcome them safely.”

There are a range of outdoor and open-air activities, such as surfing, cycling and hiking available in the region, which are easily adaptable to social-distancing measures and provide visitors the chance to reconnect with nature.

Algarve tourism has opened doors to travellers and has been taking many initiatives to lure them back.
