A new resort will open in the Maldives next month, featuring the world’s largest all-glass undersea restaurant.
Hurawalhi Island Resort will offer 90 luxury villas – 60 over-sea options and 30 on the beach – plus a PADI dive centre and spa. But the most eye-catching feature of the resort will be the 5.8 Undersea Restaurant, so called because it sits 5.8 metres below the surface of the Indian Ocean.
There are also several other F&B options location above the waves, including the Aquarium Restaurant, Teppanyaki Grill, Canneli Restaurant and Coco Bar, as well as private beachfront dining.
The resort also has an eco-friendly theme, with its own water bottling plant negating the need for plastic bottles, and solar panels that supply 30% of the island’s energy needs.
Hurawalhi is also collaborating with Manta Trust, the marine conservation group, to provided guided educational dives and snorkelling trips. The island is a nesting site for green turtles and a breeding ground for manta rays, and Manta Trust is tasked with preserving these habitats.
Hurawalhi Island Resort will welcome its first guests on 1 December 2016.
