New Niseko lifts take skiers straight from hotels to slopes

The Niseko Village ski resort in Hokkaido, Japan, has unveiled two new state-of-the-art ski lifts.
The lifts will enable Niseko to provide “complete ski-in ski-out access” for all existing and planned hotels, while increasing capacity and reducing waiting times for skiers.
The Village Express is an 816-metre-long, high-speed lift which comprises 17 six-person chairs and 17 eight-person gondolas with a total capacity of 1,866 passengers per hour. The gondolas also have glass floors. The Upper Village Gondola meanwhile, is a 250-metre “pulsed” gondola with an hourly capacity of 426 passengers.
“These lifts are a key component of YTL Hotels’ long-term development plan to ensure that the entire Niseko Village development is truly ski-in ski-out,” said Mark Yeoh, executive director of YTL Hotels, which operates the resort. “We… have delivered on our promise to continually invest and improve the infrastructure of our ski resort.”
A new 1.2km ski run has also been opened in time for the winter season, alongside both the lifts. The new run takes skiers past restaurants, cafés and retail outlets including the base of Hilton Niseko Village.
