Lapland has launched a new augmented reality app to showcase the sights of Northern Lights and Lapland.

The smartphone app is named ‘Laplication’ and changes views when the phone is turned sideways.

It also includes tools to add Northern Lights, Midnight Sun or other backgrounds to photographs, or objects such as reindeer antlers, snowflakes and a snowmobile.

The app has been launched as part of a three-year campaign as this winter is expected to be one of the best Northern Lights displays.

“Travellers can use this innovative mobile application as a travel guide while it also offers breath taking video materials, information and images from the land of extremes,” said Hanna-Mari Talvensaari, marketing director for the Lapland – the North of Finland.
