A series of new train services have been launched in Bihar.

On 22 June, India’s Minister of Railways, Suresh Prabhakar Prabhu, inaugurated a new daily train service, the Janhit Express, which connects Danapur with Saharsa – two cities in the northeastern state.

The ministry also extended the route of the daily Janki Express service between Jaynagar and Saharsa, which now runs as far as Katihar, while the existing Koshi Express train between Bihar’s capital Patna and Murliganj has been extended to Purnea Court.

And the Bihar district of Banka, which lies on the border with Jharkhand, has now been connected to the Jharkhand city of Jasidih following the extension of an existing line.

“Railways is aware of the fact that Bihar being area-wise a very big state and therefore needs extensive railway lines,” said India’s Minister of State for Railways, Manoj Sinha. “Today’s… new trains [are] a step in the direction to provide better connectivity to the state of Bihar.”
