The AERA to only determine UDF, landing and parking charges at Chennai and Kolkata airports…
The Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) has directed Airports Authority of India (AAI) to not levy Airport Development Fee (ADF) on passengers at Chennai and Kolkata airports. The AAI has now submitted proposals to Airports Economic Regulatory Authority (AERA) without incorporating the ADF.
The Minister’s directive on ADF is in line the government’s objective to make t he air travel affordable and to ensure that the passengers are not subjected to any extra burden. The AAI had submitted proposals to AERA earlier for levy of ADF of INR 300 per embarking domestic passenger and INR 1,000 per embarking international passenger at Chennai and Kolkata airports.
The proposals were returned to AAI by AERA with the direction to undertake the user consultations and make fresh proposals indicating agreements and views of the users. Ajit Singh, Minister of Civil Aviation has directed AAI not to send any fresh proposals to AERA for levying ADF on passengers traveling from both these airports, said a PIB release.
The AERA will now determine only User Development Fee (UDF) and other tariffs like landing and parking charges, while no ADF will be charged from the passengers flying from Kolkata and Chennai airports even after the modernization of the airport is completed. The modernization and expansion of Kolkata and Chennai airports is taking place with the expenditure of INR 2,325 crore and INR2,015 crore respectively.
Presently INR200 per domestic passenger and INR 1,300 per international passenger are being charged as ADF at Delhi airport and INR 100 per domestic passenger and INR 600 per international passenger are being charged as ADF at Mumbai airport.
