Thai low-cost carrier Nok Air has placed an order for up to four new Bombardier Q400 turboprop aircraft.
The airline has agreed to purchase two new Q400s, with options to double the order in future, in a deal worth up to US$258 million at current list prices.
“Nok Air strives to offer to all the freedom to fly as a convenient and affordable means of transportation,” said Patee Sarasin, Nok’s CEO. “The Q400 NextGen aircraft will allow us to operate more efficiently, as we enhance service on current routes and expand to new destinations. This flexibility will make point-to-point regional air service more accessible to Thai people, in addition to stimulating provincial economic growth.”
The deal will also see Nok become the launch customer for a new extra seating option on the Q400, expanding the aircraft’s capacity 86 to passengers.
Based in Bangkok and part-owned by Thai Airways International, Nok currently operates a fleet of 22 jet and propeller aircraft, including Boeing 737s, ATR72-500s and Saab 340Bs.
