Nok Air has placed an order for 15 Boeing 737 aircraft.
Confirmed at the Singapore Airshow this week, the Thai low-cost carrier has committed to a deal for eight B737-800s and seven new B737 MAX 8s, valued at US$1.45 billion at list prices.
The agreement will also make Nok Air the first LCC to operate the new fuel-efficient B737 MAX.
“This commitment is a major step in our growth strategy,” said Patee Sarasin, CEO of Nok Air. “The 737 is the backbone of our fleet and will continue to be in the future. These airplanes position us for growth and ensure that we’ll continue to operate the most reliable and fuel-efficient aircraft.”
Nok currently has a fleet of 14 B737-800s, which it operates in a single-class configuration with 189 seats. These form part of a broader fleet of 22 aircraft, also including six Saab 340Bs and two ATR72-500s. It will also take delivery of two new Bombardier Dash 8 aircraft in the coming years.
Nok Air recently announced plans to roll-out free Wi-Fi onboard its fleet of B737s.
