An official in Bali has reportedly confirmed the location of the island’s new airport.
Local news portal beritabali.com quoted the Regent Putu Agus Suradnyana as saying that the coastal village of Kubutambahan in northern Bali would house the new Buleleng International Airport, which was first announced last year.
The location is approximately 10km east of the town of Singaraja, and about 70km north of the existing Ngurah Rai International Airport at Denpasar.
In a speech at a nearby medical academy, the regent was quoted saying that he had met with officials from the Indonesian Transport Ministry and state-run airport operator Angkasa Pura, and that “Kubutambahan village is considered the most appropriate site for the new airport”.
According to plans, which remain somewhat vague, the new airport is expected to operate alongside Ngurah Rai, with the two hubs able to handle a combined total of 50 million passengers a year. There is also talk of a rail link being developed to connect the two airports.
