Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings (NCLH) is ramping up its expansion plans with the announcement of a major order for up to six new cruise ships.
The agreement will see Italian ship-builder Fincantieri construct a series of brand new vessels for the main Norwegian Cruise Line brand. Four ships are on order for delivery in 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025, with an option for two additional ships to be delivered in 2026 and 2027.
The contract price for the four vessels is approximately EUR800 million (US$850m) per ship.
This order will also see the launch of a completely new class of ship for Norwegian, with the four ships each able to accommodate approximately 3,300 passengers. NCLH said the as-yet-unnamed class will “build upon” the company’s most recent Breakaway Plus class, with “many innovative guest-facing and first-at-sea features”. Further details will be announced at a later date.

NCLH currently operates 24 ships with approximately 46,500 berths under its three brands: Norwegian Cruise Line, Oceania Cruises and Regent Seven Seas Cruises. The company also plans to introduce eight additional ships by 2025.
