Norwegian has opened another European base

Norwegian Air Shuttle has announced it will launch flights from London to Madrid as it plans to open a base in the Spanish city.

The new London service will operate daily from 2 June and will compete with major British and Spanish carriers on the route, which is in addition to six other services from Madrid.

It will launch when Norwegian opens its Madrid base next summer, which will be its fifth in Spain. In addition to the London service, the airline will also connect Madrid to Oslo, Stockholm, Helsinki, Hamburg, Warsaw and Copenhagen.

Norwegian has been steadily building its European airline bases in the last year, which also includes Gatwick.

“We have decided to open a new base in Madrid to meet the demand for direct flights between the Spanish capital and important cities in Europe. We see a major passenger potential from the main airport in Madrid. At the same time, it is strategically important for Norwegian to have a base in the Spanish capital in light of our presence in the Spanish market and not least, in term of our future plans,” says Norwegian’s CEO Bjørn Kjos.
