Oaks Hotels & Resorts, the Australian brand operated by Thailand’s Minor Hotel Group, is set to make its debut in Australia’s Northern Territory.
The company has completed the acquisition of Elan Soho Suites in Darwin, in a deal worth AU$57.1 million (US$41.8m).
The 301-room, 27-storey property will now be rebranded as the Oaks Elan Darwin and officially relaunched on 1 September 2015.
“As part of our business expansion strategy both in Australia and abroad, we have been focused on accumulating quality assets in a number of regional locations alongside extending our portfolio of management properties in both city and resort destinations,” explained Minor’s CEO, Dillip Rajakarier. “Darwin has always been on our wish list and we are thrilled that Minor Hotel Group will now be represented in the Northern Territory.”
The new hotel will give Oaks a presence in six Australians, as well as in the UAE, Thailand and New Zealand.
Since acquiring the Oaks brand in 2011, Minor has opened the Oaks Oasis on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast in 2011, Cypress Lakes Resort by Oaks in New South Wales’ Hunter Valley in 2013, and the new-build Oaks Grand Gladstone and neighbouring Grand Hotel in Queensland in early 2014.
