Luxury cruise operator Oceania Cruises has published a book detailing the expansive art collection onboard two of its ships: the Marina and Riviera.

The 205-page book details artist profiles and includes a history of how the various pieces came to be part of the owners’ collection, which includes over 2,000 pieces from the likes of Picasso, Miró and Damien Hirst.

Unlike many cruise lines, the entire collection has been personally amassed by the company’s founders Frank Del Rio and Bob Binder.

“Since the collection was unveiled, guests, art enthusiasts and critics have been requesting a catalogue of these provocative and eclectic works,” said Del Rio, who is chairman and CEO of Prestige Cruise Holdings, the parent company of Oceania Cruises.  “The Oceania Cruises Art Collection not only showcases the artwork but also enhances appreciation by telling the stories of the artists, their passions and their inspiration.”

“We weren’t just looking for background music with our onboard collection,” added Binder, who is vice chairman of Prestige Cruise Holdings.  “We wanted pieces that were bold and interesting, pieces that made a statement, provoked conversation and inspired emotion.”

The book is available to buy from Amazon and will be sold onboard in the coming months.
