ONYX Hospitality Group, owners of Amari, Shama and YOO Collection, has announced today the opening of its latest property, the Shama Hongqiao Shanghai.

The new serviced departments, the 50th property in the group’s portfolio, are found in Shanghai’s thriving Hongqiao Business District, nearby the city’s renowned National Convention & Exhibition Centre, Hongqiao International Airport and Hongqiao Railway Station, making it a great location for conference delegates and business travellers arriving in Shanghai for meetings and events.

The opening of the accommodations comes after the launch of Onyx’s dedicated Greater China regional headquarters in Shanghai earlier this year, as part of a pipeline of 30 new properties in Australia and China – contributing to the group’s target of having 99 hotels open over the next six years.

Douglas Martell, president and CEO of ONYX Hospitality Group, said: “The Greater China region is one of our fastest growing and most important markets, and will continue to play a significant role in our ongoing expansion and quest to be one of the Asia-Pacific region’s leading medium-sized hotel operators.

“Following the formation of our Shanghai-based Greater China team structure, ONYX Hospitality Group has successfully attracted the best talent in the business.”

“Our China growth strategy is heading in the right direction”

Martell went on to acknowledge Shama’s recent success at industry awards, like the AHF Asia Hotel Awards, where the brand won “Best Serviced Apartment Operator of Asia” for the sixth time. He said: “The opening of the 50th regional property right here in China and recognition by the wide range of industry awards and recognition is affirmation that our China growth strategy is heading in the right direction.”

Guests at the 132-room hotel can opt for either a studio, deluxe studio, one bedroom or two-bedroom residences. All of which feature high ceilings, customised Shama Slumber bed, fully equipped kitchenette, ample storage space, dual laundry washer and dryer, LED TV with international channels, Wi-Fi internet access and a work desk.
