Thailand’s Onyx Hospitality Group has added two hotels to its portfolio in China.

The first of the new properties will be the Shama Daqing Heilongjiang, which is scheduled to open in late 2016. Located in the centre of Daqing, the second largest city in the Heilongjiang province, the property will offer 110 serviced apartments, a restaurant, lounge, fitness centre and business centre.

Then in 2017, Onyx will open the Amari Yangshou Guilin. Set on one of the most historic streets of downtown Yangshou, a popular tourist destination in southwest China, the 75-room boutique hotel will feature a Thai restaurant and a spa.

“These two new properties are part of our growing portfolio of 59 properties in operation including 20 under development,” said Peter Henley, Onyx’s president & CEO. “We continue to expand our footprint beyond our Thai roots across the Asia Pacific region and have a strategic goal of managing 81 hotels, resorts and serviced apartments by 2018.

“These two new deals will bring Onyx one step closer to being a leading hospitality provider in Asia,” he added.

Onyx currently operates six properties in China, located in Shanghai and Hangzhou. But the company has significant expansion plans, with a pipeline of nine new properties scheduled to open by 2017. These include Amari, Shama and Ozo properties in locations including Beijing, Shanghai, Chengdu, Guangzhou, Xiamen and Dali.
