Onyx Hospitality Group has announced a major expansion of its Shama serviced residence brand in China.
The Bangkok-based hotel management company recently secured three more new management contracts for Shama properties in Beijing, Chengdu and Guangzhou, adding to the existing properties in Hong Kong, Shanghai and Dalian.
And the Chinese expansion is set to get underway this year the opening of the previous-signed Shama Heda Hangzhou. Set to launch in the third quarter of 2013, the property will feature 102 one- and two-bedroom units, plus a home theatre room, fitness centre, breakfast lounge and business centre.
Then in 2015 the brand’s expansion will gather pace with the launch of two new properties. The Shama BCS Beijing will mark Onyx’s debut in the Chinese capital, and will feature 123 apartment-style units in the city’s Shunyi Yanglin district. Also in 2015, Shama will arrive in Sichuan province with the opening of the 101-unit Shama Chengdu.
Then in 2016, Onyx will open the Shama Guangzhou – a 112-unit property featuring a rooftop garden, fitness centre and a breakfast lounge.
“The recently-secured management contracts in China reinforce Shama’s position and presence as a market leader in Greater China. This is especially the case in second tier cities like Chengdu, Hangzhou, Suzhou and Tianjin – cities that we will be focusing on to expand Shama’s ever increasing portfolio. These cities show the most growth potential for the quality living and lifestyle that Shama has to offer,” said Tommy Lai, Onyx’s vice president of development for North Asia.
Currently Onyx operates seven Shama serviced residences in Hong Kong, four in Shanghai and one in Dalian, plus the Shama Sukhumvit in Bangkok.
