An online travel agency in the US has started allowing customers to book rail tickets using Bitcoins.
California-based CheapAir.com became the first OTA in the world to accept the virtual currency in November 2013, when it started taking Bitcoin payments for flights. And it has now decided to extent the acceptance of Bitcoins to Amtrak rail fares.
“At CheapAir, we believe customers should get the most travel options, the most payment options and the most personalised service available,” said Jeff Klee, CEO of CheapAir. “We think it’s pretty cool when travellers can search Amtrak fares with their voice – from an airplane selected specifically for its Wi-Fi – [and] pay for train seats with Bitcoin from that airplane.”
Earlier this year two Las Vegas hotels – D Las Vegas Casino Hotel and Golden Gate Hotel & Casino – started accepting Bitcoins for in-house services such as food and beverage.
