The newly-opened Outrigger Konotta Maldives Resort has formed a new partnership to provide sustainable dive and water-based activities to its guests.
The long-term tie-up with Best Dives Maldives will see the company operate the resort’s activities and tours, including snorkelling, scuba diving, water sports, island excursions and fishing trips.
Caterina Fattori, a qualified marine biologist, has now joined the Best Dives team on Konotta Island and will give talks and presentations to groups, as well as leading the tours.
Outrigger said it chose to partner with Best Dives Maldives due to the company’s commitment to marine education and conservation.
“Konotta Island and the surrounding area in the Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll in the south of the country offers the biggest and best hard coral fields in the world,” said Eric van Melis, GM of Best Dives Maldives, who has been conducting marine trips in the Maldives since 2003.
He added that Outrigger and Best Dives Maldives will now work closely on coral conservation and education projects. This complements Outrigger’s OZONE project, which aims to protect coral reef systems around the world.
“I’m extremely proud that Outrigger Konotta Maldives Resort is embarking on a joint venture that will ensure both holiday enjoyment and coral reef knowledge for Outrigger guests,” said Bitsy Kelley, Outrigger’s vice president of corporate communications. “As a lifelong surfer, swimmer and snorkeler, ocean health is near and dear to my heart.”
