Philippine Airlines is expanding its fleet of long-haul aircraft, enabling it to mount additional flights to North America.

The national carrier recently took delivery of its seventh Boeing 777-300ER, and an eighth aircraft will join its fleet by early December. Once both aircraft are delivered, PAL will add four more weekly flights to Los Angeles, three to Vancouver and one to Toronto.

“Our B777’s arrival is just in time for the coming Christmas peak season,” said PAL’s chairman & CEO Dr Lucio C. Tan, during the welcome ceremony for the first new long-haul jet. “The next 777 will be delivered a few weeks from now or by early December. These planes are proof of my commitment and full support to Philippine Airlines. As promised, we continue to invest billions of pesos to make PAL truly a world-class, five-star airline.”

The Manila-LA route will increase from the current 10 weekly flights to 14, or twice a day, allowing PAL to offer morning and evening departures. Flights between Manila and Vancouver will increase from seven to 10 per week, while the Manila-Toronto route will increase from three to four per week.

“With additional seats come additional capacity, which now enables PAL to increase frequencies on its trans- Pacific flights to the US mainland and Canada. Our passengers can now choose from a wider variety of schedules and at the same time,” added PAL’ president & chief operating officer, Jaime J. Bautista.

The new aircraft come equipped with 365 seats in two cabins – 42 in business class and 323 in economy – as well as in-flight Wi-Fi.

The deliveries form part of PAL’s fleet modernisation programme which will also see it welcome six new Airbus A350 aircraft in the coming years, while its older A340s will be retired.
