PAL to deploy B777 on Australian routes
Philippine Airlines (PAL) will start operating its new Boeing 777-300ER on all Australian services next month.
From 30 June 2012, the Manila-based national carrier will fly the B777 to both Sydney and Melbourne, replacing the Airbus A330 and A340 currently operating the routes.
The B777 is configured with 370 seats in two classes – 42 in Mabuhay Class (business) and 328 in Fiesta Class (economy). The Recaro business class seats have a 78-inch (198cm) seat pitch and recline to 150 degrees. Economy seats have a pitch of up to 34 inches.
Both cabins feature seat-back in-flight entertainment systems with up to 19 movies, six short films, 50 CDs, 12 audio programmes and eight games. Business class passengers can also plug in USB devices.
The B777 will operate from Sydney and Melbourne to Manila on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.
The aircraft is one of two B777s purchased new by PAL and introduced in 2010, initially on the Sydney route before being deployed on services to Vancouver and Tokyo. The airline expects to take delivery of two more B777s in the next 12 months.
