Papua’s PNG Air enters new era

Papua New Guinea’s PNG Air has entered a new era with the launch of its first new ATR 72-600 aircraft, which displays its new livery.
The new 44-seat aircraft took to this skies for the first time this week, becoming the first of seven ATR 72-600s ordered by the airline, which was formerly known as Airlines PNG. The remaining six aircraft will be delivered by the end of 2017.
The aircraft also becomes the first “combi” version of the ATR 72-600 ever operated by an airline, allowing PNG Air to operate combined passenger and cargo flights.
“The arrival of the new ATR 72-600 to our fleet will enable PNG Air to enhance its service offering and redefine regional travel in Papua New Guinea. The new ATRs are the cornerstone of the PNG Air new developments,” said Muralee Siva, CEO of PNG Air. “Changing the corporate name from Airlines PNG to PNG Air is also a natural progression in the development of our airline investment.”
The new aircraft will gradually replace the airline’s fleet of ageing 36-seat turboprops.
