United Airlines has ordered 20 Boeing 787-10 Dreamliners. The US carrier has opted to add the longest version of the aircraft to its existing orders for the B787-8 (36 aircraft) and B787-9 (14), taking its total Dreamliner commitment to 65 aircraft. United will be the B787-10’s North American launch customer.
easyJet has announced plans to buy 135 new Airbus A320s. Subject to shareholder approval, the low-cost carrier will purchase 100 A320neo aircraft and 35 standard A320s. Both versions will seat 180 passengers in a single class. Currently easyJet mostly operates the 156-seat A319.
Korean Air has placed an order with Boeing for 11 more long-haul aircraft. The deal will see Korean Air acquire five more B747-8 Intercontinentals and six B777-300ER aircraft, in a deal worth US$3.6 billion at current list prices.
Air Lease Corporation (ALC) has agreed to purchase 33 new Dreamliners. The Los Angeles-based leasing company has placed a firm order for three B787-9 and 30 B787-10 Dreamliners.
Japan Airlines (JAL) has ordered four Embraer E170 regional jets. This latest order brings JAL’s total commitment to the E170 to 15 aircraft jets. As with previous orders, these four E170s will be configured with 76 seats in a single-class layout.
Tunisia’s Syphax Airlines has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to buy three Airbus A320neo aircraft. The order is the first time an African based carrier has ordered the new single-aisle jet. The carrier already operates two A319s and three A320s.
Horizon Air has placed an order for three 76-seat Bombardier Q400 turboprop aircraft, worth US$98 million at current list prices. The Seattle-based has also reconfirmed options to buy a further seven Q400 aircraft. Horizon is a subsidiary of Alaska Airlines.
Sukhoi has sold 20 Superjet 100 (SSJ-100) aircraft to Russian leasing company, Ilyushin Finance Co (IFC). The agreement covers 15 standard SSJ-100 regional jets, and five longer-range versions. Deliveries are expected to commence in 2015.
New Indian domestic carrier, Air Costa, has acquired three Embraer regional jets. The Vijayawada-based airline has purchased two E170s and one new E190 from the Brazilian planemaker. Air Costa will initially connect cities in southern India.
Conviasa, the Venezuelan airline, has signed a contract for seven Embraer E190 jets, exercising options from the original order place in July 2012. The airline now has a total of 13 firm orders for the E190 jet, plus options for another seven aircraft.
Air Lituanica, the new airline based in Lithuania, has acquired two Embraer regional jets. The Vilnius-based carrier will launch its first scheduled service on 30 June with one E170 and will add another E175. The jets will be configured with 76 and 86 seats respectively.
