An Air India flight was delayed last week, when a passenger opened one of the aircraft doors prior to take-off.
The Economic Times reports that the Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft was preparing to depart Moscow on a flight to Delhi when the door was opened, causing one of the emergency chutes to deploy.
The passenger responsible for the incident was reported saying that it was an honest mistake.
“I was about to take my seat when I heard a staffer knocking on the window asking to open the door. So I opened the door without realising that I shouldn’t have opened it,” the newspaper cited the passenger as saying in a statement to the airline.
The escape slide automatically deployed once the door opened, and an engineering team had to be called in to recover it.
The incident marks the latest in a series of recent reports of passengers opening aircraft doors. In December, a first-time flyer decided to open the door of a Xiamen Airlines flight in China prior to take off, and just last month a tour guide and several passengers were detained after opening the door of a flight at Kunming Airport. The passengers were complaining about a lack of air.
