Passengers who were onboard a Fred. Olsen cruise in May are to sue the cruise line after a bout of Norovirus affected almost 100 people on board.
The 14-night Baltic cruise onboard Boudicca, was hit by the vomiting bug after it departed Liverpool on 23 May. In total 96 people reported being affected by symptoms of gastroenteritis, according to the Liverpool Echo.
Irwin Mitchell, the travel law specialists, has confirmed it has been contacted by passengers from four different Fred. Olsen cruises onboard Boudicca between March and May, including a Baltic cruise.
The Echo quoted 84-year old Barbara Smith as saying: “My friend fell ill just a few days into the trip and I ended up getting ill the day after her. When I returned home I continued to suffer.
“It was so awful. I will have no problem remembering this trip but for all the wrong reasons.”
Fred. Olsen released the following statement:
“Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines can confirm that a number of guests have been affected by gastro-enteritis-type symptoms on board its 880-guest cruise ship, Boudicca, on some recent cruises.
“As a result of these gastro-enteritis outbreaks, Boudicca has undergone intensive ‘deep cleans’ and sanitising operations by independent specialist contractors upon its arrival back in Liverpool and this was extended to cover the Cruise Terminal, as an additional precaution.”
No one at the company was available to comment on the legal proceedings.
