Philippine Airlines (PAL) has announced it will launch flights from London to Manila in November after a ban on European routes was lifted.
Services from Heathrow under the flag carrier will commence flights from 4 November five times a week on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday.
PAL has been banned from operating flights to Europe by the EU on grounds of safety but was recently removed from the list. No direct service has been available between the cities since 1998.
“That we have been given permission to fly to Heathrow makes our return much more meaningful. We take this as a strong vote of confidence by UK authorities in PAL’s ability to bring in the passenger traffic volume worthy of the world’s top airlines,” said Ramon S. Ang, president and chief operating officer at PAL.
“With the new direct air links, our country is looking at a potential windfall in tourism, trade and investment from Europe,” he added.
PAL will operate the route using a Boeing 777-300ER with business class and economy class seats.
Around 116,000 Brits are thought to have visited the Philippines in 2012, with 60, 234 visited this year so far.
The route will depart from Heathrow Terminal 4 in late afternoon to arrive in Manila early afternoon. The return journey leaves Manila in the morning to arrive in London in the afternoon
