Philippine Airlines will launch its first flights to New Zealand on Wednesday, as it continues to expand its network in Oceania.

Commencing on 2 December 2015, the national carrier will operate four weekly flights from Manila to Auckland, via Cairns, using a 156-seat Airbus A320 aircraft.

Flights will depart Manila every Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday at 2315 and arrive in Cairns at 0730 the next morning, before taking off again at 0830 and arriving in Auckland at 1630. The return flights will then leave Auckland every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday at 1930 and arrive in Cairns at 2230. They then depart again at 2330 and land back in Manila at 0330.

“The route will stimulate passenger traffic along three travel streams – Manila-Cairns, Manila-Auckland as well as Cairns-Auckland,” said PAL’s president, Jaime J. Bautista.

“The new service allows Philippine Airlines to cater to the travel needs of business and leisure travellers and showcase its distinct brand of service marked by Filipino warmth, charm and hospitality. Filipinos residing in New Zealand will find the new service as their convenient link to their home country.”

The new route marks PAL’s first foray into New Zealand, which is home to more than 44,000 Filipinos.

Cairns and Auckland will become PAL’s 37th and 38th international destinations, and continue the airline’s recent expansion efforts in Oceania. On 25 October 2015, PAL added two more weekly flights to its Manila-Sydney route, taking the total frequency to daily. And on 18 December the airline will launch a brand new route to Port Moresby, the capital of Papua New Guinea. PAL also flies to Darwin, Brisbane and Melbourne.
