Starting August 15, Philippine Airlines will require all passengers to wear face shields, on top of the mandatory face masks, on all flights.
The new measure is in line with the latest guidelines for the public transport sector prescribed by the Philippine’s Department of Transportation.
Passengers will have to bring their own face shields to wear during the flight. The airline is also requiring all of its cabin crew to wear full PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) during flights. It is also conducting temperature checks on passengers, increasing the number of hand sanitisers inflight, and installing protective barriers at airports and ticket information counters.
The airline cancelled all of its scheduled flights to and from Manila since 4 August as the whole National Capital Region was placed back in a much stricter restriction called Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine after daily confirmed cases reached over 6,000.
The Philippines is now the epicentre of COVID-19 with more than 139,000 confirmed cases and several hospitals are in full capacity, at the time of this writing.
