Princess Cruises will take delivery of two brand new ships in the coming years, following the recent agreement signed between the Carnival Corporation and Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri.

Due to enter service in 2019 and 2020, the two as-yet-unnamed vessels will both be able to carry 3,560 passengers, with 80% of the staterooms featuring balconies. Facilities will include multiple dining, entertainment and retail venues and outdoor theatres.

They will become the fourth and fifth ships in Princess Cruises’ Royal Class, which currently includes the  Royal Princess, Regal Princess and the new Majestic Princess, which is due to launch in 2017.

“We are incredibly proud and excited to add two new ships to our already formidable fleet,” said Jan Swartz, president of Princess Cruises. “With this new ship commitment Princess Cruises will continue to grow and expand globally as the world’s destination leader in premium cruising.”

In total, Carnival Corporation has ordered five ships from Fincantieri, including the two ships for Princess Cruises, two for Costa Cruises, and the largest ever vessel for P&O Australia. The total order is valued at US$3.4 billion.
