Princess Cruises has revealed some of the facilities that will be found onboard its new Chinese-focused ship, Majestic Princess, as well as its initial sailings.
The 3,560-passenger cruise ship has been built specifically for the Chinese market, but will make its debut in Europe next year, operating six weeks’ of Mediterranean voyages from Rome, Barcelona or Athens. Majestic Princess’ inaugural voyage – a five-day Adriatic Sea roundtrip cruise from Rome – will take place on 4 April 2017.
The vessel will then depart for Asia on 14 May 2017, when it sets sail from Barcelona and cruises to its new permanent homeport in Shanghai. Once in China it will operate a series of sailings to destinations in Japan and South Korea.
Onboard, passengers will be able to experience many Chinese-tailored facilities and services, including a noodle bar, tea lounge, dim sum bar, and the Harmony Cantonese Restaurant, which has been created in partnership with Richard Chen, former chef of Wing Lei – the first Chinese restaurant in North America to be awarded a Michelin star.
There will also be a series of private karaoke rooms fitted with sofas, large TV screens and minibars, plus nearby 1,100m² of shopping space focusing on designer brand such as Cartier, Bvlgari, Burberry and Gucci.

These include a huge outdoor movie screen, the Princess Live TV studio, and SeaWalk – a glass-floored walkway that extends eight metres beyond the edge of the ship, over the ocean.
“Over the past 50 years, we have developed a mastery of global travel delivering a truly international cruise holiday experience to our guests. With the debut of Majestic Princess, first in Europe and then in China we invite guests to indulge in a world-class experience that allows them to completely relax, unwind and ultimately ‘come back new’,” said Jan Swartz, president of Princess Cruises.
At approximately 143,000 gross tonnes, Majestic Princess will be one of the largest cruise ships in the world.
