Profits soar at Barrhead Travel

Barrhead Travel has seen its pre-tax profits for 2011 soar 73% as it moves into its marketing agreement with Kuoni.
According to a report by The Scotsman, the company’s websites and new cruise call centre in Cumbria contributed towards the success, alongside cost-control, its marketing strategy and technology investments.
During 2011 sales are said to have increased 30% to £128.9m, with travel agency commission up to £11.5m. Its tour operator sales have also risen to £27.1m from £22.3m.
The announcement comes as the group prepares to include Kuoni areas in four of its offices. Barrhead’s retail outlets in Oswald Street Superstore in Glasgow, East Kilbride, Cumbernauld and Aberdeen will include an area dedicated to the luxury tour operator, which a roll-out planned across its 36 offices.
It will be Kuoni’s first entry into Scotland and follows its partnership with John Lewis.
