Air New Zealand has posted its best interim profit result in five years.
Its net profit increased to NZ$100 million (GBP54.5m) in its latest half-year results compared to GBP33.9m year-on-year.
The carrier has seen increased demand on its domestic routes while its international network has become profitable for the first time since the financial crisis.
CEO Christopher Luxon praised his leadership team for helping to grow its existing markets and develop new ones.
“We have a new leadership team with deep industry experience fused with fresh perspectives from world class leaders who have joined us from other sectors. The focus and energy within Air New Zealand is quite remarkable,” he said. “While aviation will always continue to have its challenges, we have a new level of agility and we’re more focused than ever on managing what is controllable within our business.”
The carrier is well-known for its in-flight safety videos and unveiled another this week featuring Bear Grylls. It has also boosted promotions with Tourism New Zealand following the launch of The Hobbit last year.
