Qantas and Airbnb have joined forces in a world-first partnership that gives the airline’s frequent flyers the chance to use their miles to book private rental accommodation.
Under the agreement, Qantas’ 11.4 million frequent flyer members will be able to earn miles when they book their Airbnb accommodation through qantas.com. One Qantas Point will be awarded for every dollar spent on any of Airbnb’s 2.5 million accommodation listings worldwide.
Effectively the tie-up is nothing new; Qantas has many similar partnerships with hotel companies. But this marks the first time Airbnb has formed such a partnership with an airline FFP, reflecting a modern shift in consumer travel trends.
“The way that people around the world plan, book and experience travel is changing rapidly with the digital revolution,” explained Qantas CEO, Alan Joyce. “We know many of our customers are just as likely to arrange an Airbnb as they are to book a hotel, and we wanted to recognise and reward them for that.”
Airbnb’s CEO & co-founder, Brian Chesky, commented; “Our announcement today with Qantas highlights the rapidly growing movement towards the personalised and unique experiences available through the Airbnb community.
“People around the world are experiencing a different way to travel through Airbnb. We’re focused on connecting people with the hospitality of locals, welcoming travellers into their communities so they can truly belong anywhere. There are just a handful of global brands who understand that travel is now changing for the better. Qantas is one of those brands.”
To earn Qantas Points, frequent flyers should visit qantas.com/stay and choose the Airbnb option.
