Qatar Airways expands in Africa

Qatar Airways announced an expansion into Africa with scheduled flights to Eritrea’s capital city Asmara. The new flights will take off from 4 December 2014.

The twice-weekly flights will operate from Doha to Asmara and will be served by an Airbus A320 featuring 12 seats in business class and 132 seats in economy.

Qatar Airways group chief executive officer, HE Akbar Al Baker said: “The launch of scheduled flights to Asmara allows us to further expand our business on the African continent. There is clearly demand and huge potential to and from Eritrea, one of the many underserved markets in Africa.”

The flights will operate on Thursdays and Saturdays with QR1443 departing Doha at 2030 hrs, arriving into Asmara at 2359 hrs. On Fridays and Sundays, the flight QR1444 will depart Asmara at 0245 hrs, arriving into Doha at 0605 hrs.
