Doha, QATAR - Qatar Airways will expand its operations in Switzerland by adding an extra flight on the Doha-Zurich route commencing October 25.

The extra service on the Zurich route will offer excellent connections via Qatar Airways operational hub of Doha to a host of cities across the airline’s global network covering Europe, Middle East, Africa, Far East, South East Asia and North America.

The addition of a Saturday departure out of Zurich promises to be a popular flight among Swiss holidaymakers heading to leisure destinations such as the Maldives and Seychelles as well as Hong Kong, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur and Ho-Chi-Minh City in Vietnam.

Passengers looking to travel to Zurich will have more choice with the additional frequency adding further convenience and flexibility to their travel plans. Although the route is strongly frequented by business travellers, Zurich is also famous among leisure travellers visiting the beautifully located city close to the Swiss Alps and Lake Zurich.

Famous for being a sophisticated shopping paradise due to its world-renowned Swiss jewellery and watch industry, Zurich and Switzerland in general are attracting more and more visitors every year and likewise has Qatar Airways’ service on this particular route grown from strength to strength since its launch in 2004.

The Doha-Zurich route is operated with a state-of-the-art Airbus A330, in a two-class cabin configuration and features 24 seats in Business Class and 236 Economy Class seats.

Qatar Airways Chief Executive Officer Akbar Al Baker explained that the airline’s Swiss expansion was part of its growth plans to step up frequencies across an expanding global network.

“Qatar Airways has enjoyed five years of success in Switzerland. We are pleased to be able to reinforce our commitment to this important European market through adding capacity and offering our passengers more choice and flexibility on the Zurich route,” Al Baker said.

The Zurich upgrade follows recent announcements that the airline’s Doha-Paris service will operate twice daily from October. Additional flights to Madrid, Athens and Stockholm will see a near 40 per cent increase in frequency across the four cities later this year.

Qatar Airways also operates five-flights-a-week to Geneva, its second Swiss destination, launched in June 2007.

Qatar Airways currently operates a modern fleet of 69 aircraft to 82 key business and leisure destinations across Europe, Middle East, Africa, South Asia, Far East and North America. The airline has outstanding orders for more than 220 aircraft worth over US$40 billion.
