Qatar Airways has unveiled plans to launch flights to Adelaide using its newest long-haul aircraft, the Airbus A350.

The new direct daily service from Doha will commence on 2 May 2016. This will mark Qatar Airways’ third Australian destination following existing services to Melbourne and Perth and a new route to Sydney, which launches on 1 March 2016.

“2016 is going to be yet another exciting year for Qatar Airways and we are very pleased that Australia will figure prominently in our expansion plans with the launch of flights to Sydney from March 1 and Adelaide from May 2 to further strengthen our operations in the country,” said Qatar Airways’ group chief executive, Akbar Al Baker.

“Our launching of flights to Adelaide and Sydney next year will provide even more choice for holidaymakers and business travellers to Australia, and also provide a strategic air link for travellers from Adelaide to the rest of the world.”

Passengers on the Adelaide route will be able to experience Qatar Airways’ newest cabin products on the A350, including 36 flat-bed seats in business class and 247 seats in economy, plus 2,000 in-flight entertainment options and in-flight Wi-Fi.

Following the launch of the Sydney and Adelaide services in 2016, Qatar Airways will operate a total of 28 weekly flights to Australia.
