Qatar Airways will launch daily direct flights to Sydney next year.
Commencing on 1 March 2016, the new service will depart Doha every day at 2010 and arrive in Sydney at 1805 the next day. The return service will then depart Australia’s largest city at 2220, arriving back into Doha at 0505 the following day.
Sydney will become Qatar Airways’ third destination in Australia, following Melbourne and Perth, which it also serves daily.
“We are delighted to debut our daily Sydney flights next March. The expansion of our Australia services will undoubtedly boost and strengthen the trade and commercial links that exist between Qatar and Australia, setting the stage for even more robust partnership opportunities in the near future,” said Qatar Airways’ group chief executive, Akbar Al Baker.
“We look forward to carrying more travellers to and from Australia across our extensive global network and providing them with another world-class experience both on board and on the ground.”
Sydney Airport’s managing director & CEO, Kerrie Mather, welcomed the new flights.
“The new daily service will significantly boost inbound tourism to New South Wales, as well as create an estimated 3,000 jobs, including 2,500 in NSW, and contribute over AU$240 million (US$167m) to the Australian economy,” she stated.
The new Doha-Sydney flights will be operated using Qatar Airways’ two-class Boeing 777-300 aircraft.
