The Qatar Tourism Authority (QTA) has launched a GCC-wide advertising campaign to promote events and activities during Eid. This is being undertaken to attract regional visitors. The authority will be marketing the Eid Al-Fitr festival in the five GCC countries of Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait, UAE and Oman. The festival will be a seven-day event starting on the first day of Eid.
Tourism data released by QTA of the first quarter of 2014 revealed that total number of visitors from around the world rose by 26%, while percentage of visitors from Kuwait rose by 42%. Tourism data from the same period showed that total GCC visitors grew by five percent, with 188,621 tourists from Saudi Arabia, making it the largest single source of GCC visitors.
“Our aim is to make Qatar a favorable destination not only for international but also for GCC visitors,” said Rashed Al Qurese, marketing and promotion director of QTA.
The authority is teaming up with various entities for the Eid Festival which include: Ministry of Culture, Arts, and Heritage; Katara Cultural Village; Souq Waqif; Pearl-Qatar; Qatar Shooting and Archery Association; Lusail Circuit; Al Dosari Zoo and Game Reserve; Al Rayyan Radio; and Aqua Park Qatar.
Last year’s Eid Festival saw more than 75,000 people visiting Qatar.
