One of the world’s most modern cruise ships, Quantum of the Seas, has visited India for the first time.
The 18-deck liner, which is operated by Royal Caribbean, carried approximately 4,000 passengers to the port of Kochi on 4 June 2015. At 168,666 gross tonnes, Quantum of the Seas is the largest ship ever to call at an Indian port.
The visit to Kerala forms part of a 14-night cruise from Dubai to Singapore. The ship arrived at Kochi from Muscat, and departed for Penang on 5 June.
The arrival in Kochi was markedby the exchange of plaques between Captain Srecko Ban of Quantum of the Seas, and Dr Unnikrishnan Nair, traffic manager of Kochi Port Trust.
“We are thrilled that Quantum of the Seas has finally arrived in Asia today which is a huge milestone for Royal Caribbean. This is the ship that will change everything, in pushing the boundaries, elevating cruising to be among the top vacation choices and reinforcing our brand as an industry leader,” said Ratna Chadha, chief executive of Tirun Travel Marketing, Royal Caribbean’s representative in India.
“The Quantum Class is the next generation of cruise ships filled with innovations in entertainment, technology and culinary that take guests to new heights on the high seas, which we are sure will unleash a new wave of excitement and cruise boom among Indian vacationers.”
