Queensland plans to tap more markets in India.
The tourism board plans to promote the destination among Tier II and III cities in the country. From September 2012 to September 2013, Indian arrivals to Queensland stood at about 37,000, registering a 22% increase over the previous 12 month period.
In 2014-15, the state expects a 10% growth from India, following the start of direct Air India flights to Australia.
Tourism Queensland is currently conducting a five-city roadshow in cities of Chandigarh, New Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai and Pune. A team of 10 suppliers including destinations, resorts and attractions are promoting wedding, adventure and wildlife tours.
Ryna Sequeira, marketing manager for Tourism Queensland told Travel Daily India in New Delhi that a roadshow in March will cover new cities of Nagpur, Guhawati, Surat and Ludhiana in order to tap newer markets.
