Thai nationals and expatriates alike can now look forward to an enjoyable – if slightly irreverent – destination for socialising and unwinding with the recent opening of Beer Republic at one of Bangkok’s shopping districts.

After months of anticipation, the bar’s official Facebook and Instagram accounts simply featured a photo that cheekily said ‘We were going to prepare a long and formal statement to announce our opening, but we decided to go with this instead: WE ARE OPEN! See you soon!’ To show that it means business, it is giving away two-for-one Thai craft beers until 24 December to match its holiday feast.

Inspired by the look and feel of 1920s European industrial warehouses, Beer Republic gives off the vibe of a pub or a speakeasy. Live performers of rock, blues and acoustic music provide an ambiance that makes lounging around enjoyable for casual beer lovers and serious beer aficionados alike.

The self-proclaimed ‘republic of beer’ in the Thai capital is run by a team that takes the drink seriously. British native ‘Beer Master’ Daniel Thom mans the helm, with certifications as a Cicerone Beer Server and WSET Level 3 qualified in Wine and Spirits under his belt. Ashley Ziegler joins him as ‘Vice President of Beer Research and Testing’, as befitting an American who comes from the home of the modern craft brewing phenomenon. Hotel and restaurant industry veteran Khun Sivakorn brings enthusiasm into his position as the team’s ‘Beer Deputy.’ Finally, Khun ‘May’ Areerat rounds up the team as the resident ‘Beer Buff.’

Of course, the star of this space is none other than the golden alcoholic malt-and-hops beverage that it brews and serves. Beer Republic boasts more than 70 beers in its cellars, with at least 40 of them handcrafted beers, and a minimum of 20 draft beers. These are served with spicy Thai and delicious European bar food, like Ga Khua Takrai and Deep-Fried Calamari.

Gregory Preslier, Asia director of sales & marketing for IHG Thailand which runs the Beer Republic, shared, ‘Our beer selection is perfect for enjoying while seated on our terrace. I look forward to catching up with guests over the holidays just so we can share a brew!’

Beer Republic is located along Phloen Chit Road in the Pathum Wan district, facing Holiday Inn Bangkok. The best way to grab a table is by sending an email at ihaveaquestion@beerrepublicbangkok.com, although it is also easily reached through a phone call to +66 (0) 2656 0080.
