A record number of Singaporeans travelled to New Zealand in the last 12 months.
According to new data from Tourism New Zealand, more than 47,500 Singaporeans visited New Zealand in the year-to-August 2015, marking the highest ever number in a 12-month period.
The figures were helped by the launch of Singapore Airlines‘ and Air New Zealand‘s flights between the two countries, which started in January 2015.
“New Zealand is a popular holiday choice for Singaporeans seeking an escape from hectic urban life,” said Tourism New Zealand’s regional manager for South & Southeast Asia, Steven Dixon.
“With the many activities available in New Zealand in close proximity, travellers are able to enjoy New Zealand’s clean, green landscapes while skiing, rafting or simply wine tasting in one of New Zealand’s many picturesque vineyards. Each season also offers its own charms.”
The figures were released ahead of the ‘Kiwi Link South East Asia’ event, Tourism New Zealand’s annual road show, which this year takes place in Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia from 2-12 October 2015.
“Kiwi Link brings together Singaporean tourism product managers and planners with New Zealand tourism operators, allowing us to raise awareness of New Zealand’s many offerings as a travel destination. The event also allows New Zealand’s tourism operators to get a better understanding of how they can cater for Singaporean travellers,” said Dixon.
