A new riverside tourist attraction in Bangkok will become the tallest structure in Thailand.
The Bangkok Post reports that the Thai government is planning to build a 459-metre-high observation tower on the banks of the Chao Praya River. By contrast, the city’s Baiyoke Tower is only 304 metres high.
Set on a 6,400m² pilot of land in the Khlong San district of the city, between the Peninsula and Hilton hotels, the new attraction will feature seven lower floors topped with the tower. The top floor of the of the tower will house a exhibition dedicated to Thailand’s kings.
The project is expected to cost THB4 billion (US$111 million). It becomes the latest in a series of major developments on the Chao Praya River, including shopping malls, luxury hotels and condominiums.
