Royal Caribbean has confirmed that winter 2016-17 will see its longest-ever season in Singapore, as three cruise ships base their operations in the Lion City.
Three of the largest cruise ships operating in Asia – Ovation of the Seas, Mariner of the Seas and Voyager of the Seas – will return to Singapore’s Marina Bay Cruise Centre from October 2016 to May 2017, marking Royal Caribbean’s longest homeporting season in Singapore, running for eight months.
In total these three ships will offer 55 cruises and are expected to carry an estimated 200,000 passengers. This deployment will increase Royal Caribbean’s capacity in Southeast Asia by 30% year-on-year.
Mariner of the Seas will start the season in October 2016, offering 39 sailings until March 2017. These range in duration from three to seven nights and include such destinations such as Penang, Langkawi, Kuala Lumpur, Phuket, Bangkok and Ho Chi Minh City.
New itineraries for the season include a three-night ‘Penang Weekend Cruise’ and a four-night ‘Phuket Cruise’. The ship will also embark on festive cruises for Christmas, New Year and Chinese New Year, along with a themed ‘Salsa Cruise’ in December.
Ovation of the Seas, the largest and newest ship to be deployed in Asia, will undertake its first ever Singapore homeport season in March and April 2017, with a total of 10 sailings. These include three- to five-night voyages to Penang, Phuket and Bangkok and a 12-night one-way cruise to Tianjin with calls at HCMC, Danang, Hong Kong and Seoul.
Ovation of the Seas alone is expected to add approximately 42,000 additional passengers to Singapore’s cruise sector.
Following this in May 2017, Voyager of the Seas will offer six sailings of three to five nights to Kuala Lumpur, Penang and Phuket, plus an eight-night one-way cruise to Hong Kong, with stops in Bangkok, HCMC and Nha Trang.
Guests will be able to experience a range on onboard amenities, including Ovation of the Seas’ North Star observation capsule, which rises over 90 metres over the ocean, a bar staffed by robots, skydiving and surfing simulators, and a Jamie Oliver restaurant.
Mariner of the Seas and Voyager of the Seas both feature ice rinks, full-sized sports courts and DreamWorks entertainment programmes, while Voyager of the Seas also comes with a surfing simulator.
