Royal Caribbean’s Mariner of the Seas cruise liner kicked off its maiden Asian cruise season on Friday (31 May 2013).

The 15 deck, 3,807-passenger liner arrived at Singapore’s Marina Bay Cruise Centre late last week following an 11-night cruise from Dubai. It will now homeport in Singapore offering a range of itineraries including three-, four- and five-night cruises to Kuala Lumpur, Langkawi, Penang and Phuket, a seven-night cruise to Bangkok and Ho Chi Minh City, and an eight-night cruise to Shanghai with calls at HCMC, Xiamen and Hong Kong.

Then during the summer, Mariner of the Seas will relocate to Shanghai, offering a series of North Asian cruises, before returning to Southeast Asian waters from November to March 2014.

The ship was welcomed in Singapore by Ong Huey Hong, director of Cruise at the Singapore Tourism Board, who exchanged plaques in an onboard ceremony with Mariner of the Seas’ Captain Flemming Nielsen.

“The arrival of Mariner of the Seas in Singapore today marks yet another major milestone for Royal Caribbean as we set to keep growing with the region’s booming cruise market,” said Jennifer Yap, Royal Caribbean’s managing director for Singapore. “Our brand is not only creating a bigger wave of interest in cruising, it also makes us leaders once again in redefining the cruising experience in
Asia.”

Mariner of the Seas is the fourth Royal Caribbean ship homeporting in Asia, following Rhapsody of the Seas, Legend of the Seas and Voyager of the Seas.

Asian passengers will be offered a series of onboard facilities, including a theatre, full-sized sports courts, ice rink, rock-climbing wall and mini-golf course.
