Royal Caribbean has signed a new deal that will see it base one of its ships in Tokyo in next year.

Following a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) penned this week with the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, the Voyager of the Seas liner will use the Japanese capital as its homeport for at least two sailings in 2014.

The 3,840-passenger ship’s maiden Tokyo season in 2014 will start with a 10-night sailing from Singapore on 10 April 2014, with calls at Hong Kong, Kaohsiung, Taipei and Nagasaki, before arriving in Tokyo on 20 April.

Voyager of the Seas will then operate a six-night round-trip voyage from Tokyo to South Korea, calling at Jeju Island, Busan and Nagoya and a nine-night round-trip cruise to Taipei, Kaohsiung and Hong Kong.It will then depart Tokyo on 5 May on a four-night sailing from to Taipei via Kobe and Okinawa.

The homeport deal was signed onboard the Voyager of the Seas, which arrived in Tokyo this week as part of a 12-night cruise from Tianjin.

The 14-deck Voyager of the Seas is the largest Royal Caribbean vessel based in Asia, and offers a range of facilities including a three-tier theatre, a 700-seat ice-skating rink, a rock-climbing wall and mini-golf course.
