Ryanair’s Michael O’Leary has flown over to Cyprus for negotiations to buy loss-making Cyprus Airways.
Talks are underway with the Cypriot government about the takeover, weeks after Ryanair was reported saying it had no interest in buying “that barrel of rubbish”, according to the Daily Telegraph.
Ryanair was among 20 companies that submitted interest in the airline in July, with O’Leary hinting it was looking at launching flights outside of Europe.
If it went through the Irish carrier would operate Cyprus Airways under a separate air operator’s certificate and retain its brand.
