A team of developers from Singapore created the winning travel app in Sabre’s inaugural Asia Pacific “hackathon”.

The app, called “Moments”, was designed in response to the growing trend for ‘bleisure’ (combined business and leisure) travel in Asia Pacific, allowing travel agents plan and book these separate elements in the same itinerary.

It does this by allowing business travellers to create a “social profile”, which can then be accessed by agents, enabling them to recommend additional leisure activities.

The winning team was awarded US$10,000 which will go towards supporting the future development of the app.

“We loved the idea of an app that addresses a very specific traveller group,” said Roshan Mendis, senior vice president for Sabre Travel Network Asia Pacific. “A combination of socio-economic factors and rapidly advancing technological enablement in this region is fuelling a rapid evolution in the way people travel, and we’re seeing a lot of new patterns and preferences emerging.

“It’s essential that travel businesses have the right technologies in place to adapt to these changing traveller demands,” he added.

The Moments app is designed to work in the Sabre Red Workspace, the new agent solution which is launching in Asia Pacific next year.
