Sabre has joined forces with telecoms giant AT&T to develop more geo-targeted mobile solutions for the travel industry.
The two companies are developing and testing new products and services that utilise AT&T’s ‘Location Information Services’ (LIS), which allows developers to create geo-aware mobile applications. The project will use device-based location information to help airlines, airport retailers and other travel companies to deliver more personalised services to the traveller.
“By applying cutting edge technologies, coupled with data analytics and better intelligence, we can give travellers the personalised experience they have come to expect in today’s connected world,” said Sarah Kennedy, director of Sabre’s R&D division, Sabre Labs.
“Together with AT&T, we will explore the role advanced location-based services can have in helping travel suppliers provide better, more personal service to their customers.”
Solutions being considered by Sabre include the ability to inform airline staff when a high-status passenger moves through the airport, or allowing retailers to notify travellers of special promotions as they pass a shop or F&B outlet.
Phase one of the pilot project between Sabre and AT&T is expected to be completed during the first half of 2014.
